Why Gaming Addiction Is Now A Disease, Tomi Lahren & Ann Coulter Defend Child Immigrant Separation

What’s up you, beautiful bastards hope you had a fantastic Tuesday, welcome back to the Philip Defranco Show, and let’s just jump into it. And the first thing we’re to talk about today, by far one of the most requested non-political stories out there and I think – I think we need, to start things off a little bit light. According to the latest edition of the World Health Organization’s Diagnostic Handbook, gaming disorders should be considered a mental disorder. And specifically they added “gaming disorder” to the 11th edition of its I.C.D. It’s International Statistical classification of diseases. And they say there are three criteria necessary to diagnose someone with gaming disorder. One, there’s impaired control over when, how long, how, frequently, etc. they, game. Two, the person does not stop gaming, despite the negative consequences they have in their life Maybe here they’re doing badly at their jobs, school, less time with friends, less interaction. And three, the compulsive gaming strains that person’s life or relationships. And according to the World Health Organization this pattern of behavior needs to last at least one year. Or last if the requirements are met and the symptoms are severe. Now as far as this seeming like a big deal or not one of the W.H.O. members from the department that proposed this change seems to be downplaying it. That being Vladimir Posniak who said “I’m not creating a precedent,” adding that the “World Health Organization is just following the trends, the developments, which have taken place in populations and in the professional field.” But with this new diagnosis, the classification, there has been push back, and not just from gamers. You have many people pointing to the D.S.M. which is published in the United States. D.S.M. standing for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorders. And there it classifies internet-gaming disorders as something that requires more research. Also back in 2016, we saw experts writing a letter to the World Health Organization advising against including a gaming disorder in the I.C.D. Saying that the existing research was poor, that there was no actual medical consensus, albeit that there was fighting. And those experts even wrote “the act of formalizing this disorder, even as a proposal, has negative medical, scientific, public health, societal, and human rights fallout that should be considered.” And even more recently you have people like psychologist anthony beam Who actually see gaming as a positive thing, he, said i’m a Clinician and a researcher so i see people, who play video games and believe themselves to be on the lines of addictive he also
Added that in his experience gaming is used more as a coping mechanism for either Anxiety or depression and also adding that the three qualifiers to say if you have this, disorder or not are far too broad Also pointing other there’s nothing to differentiate mild to severe forms of this new Diagnosis and calling this label premature and i will say my personal reaction to this is it’s a very instinctive Pushback for example i saw, the bbc publish an hour that Was initially titled computer game addiction i spent 20 plus hours a week game and my initial response is at 20 hours a week isn’t Insane when i was a teenager and then a young man in my 20 is 20 hours a week it was lightweight stuff i have Pumped those numbers up those are rookie numbers in this racket is my preferred form of entertainment? Over tv movies books whatever it wasn’t always just me locked up in my room although there was a lot of that there Was, also me playing pokemon red? And then using that game as a way to interact with other kids even as i grew up every college party I, went to like someone was playing smash even more so now, when i look at. Games like fortnight, which you can Play, for free, which is insane it’s a great form of entertainment on the cheap even if you’re. Purchasing a Few cosmetics here there i just want a budget standpoint i mean to go see a movie in la it calls like 15 to 20 dollars whereas i can play
this Game an infinite number of hours for free i also have to acknowledge that is my personal? Experience and it’s always been one that has been very healthy Because then on the other side i do have personal experiences of having a roommate that That lost multiple Jobs because he decided he just wanted to stay home smoke weed and play final fantasy online all the time so for me for my Opinion he’s always served as the example of someone that pulled Really really, far back from society and could be someone that, would be inside of this classification but of course his, story much like My, own is a very local story a very central story so it’s important to look more international and so we look at Places like south, korea that have a gaming addiction rehabilitation, center and the numbers there are far different and it’s not a, new Topic i mean that there are reports coming out about this years ago And sound like this one from business insider pointing out that teens are spending up to 88 hours a week gaming Which i will say and give them their that eighty eight hours of anything a, week seems excessive but to then come Back to the icd to come back to the story, saying 20 hours a week here’s my gaming addiction Story, that still to me personally seems ludicrous, so that’s, why, to me this move and stories like This it just seemed like a continued effort to Villainize video games over other forms of media i mean just look at most any other form of media specifically tv shows it is so Common to consume an enormous amount of tv the binge watching is an understood and accepted form of consuming all of a tv show all at once Despite depending on the show it being 8 to 20 hours i mean you had a nielsen study Back in 2016 saying that the average american consumes more than 5 hours of tv a, day if we’re going By the per week model you’re talking about over 35 hours a week on average we’re not out there saying that Amc’s the devil because they decide to have a breaking bad marathon nor should, we in my opinion But that said i do want to pass the question off to you, what is your opinion, about the world health organization? Saying that gaming, disorder should be considered a mental health Disorder you think that it makes complete sense or no you think it is completely ridiculous, also, what do you think, about the comparisons between Television and video games is there a difference because one is more passive the other is more Interactive and also if you, do believe that makes them different at an important level do you Think it makes it worse or better a, main point let me know, what you’re thinking in those comments down below But from that i want to share some stuff i loved today and today and awesome brought to you, by blue apron Belieber and of course the fantastic service that allows you to create Delicious chef design recipes at home they offer two types of plans the two-person plan, where you get two to three recipes Each designed to serve two people you have the family plan two to four recipes designed to serve four people and it is so convenient And so easy all meals are designed to be prepared in just 40 minutes or less So even recipes are delivered in a refrigerated, box so ingredients will stay fresh even if you’re, not home when your package arrives They, offer a large selection of recipes and they’re always adding, new dishes to their menu every, week leaving prices Also, started just 749 per serving and there’s no commitments you can, skip or cancel the service at Any time and so if you, want to check it out You, want to insert some awesome into your life just click that link in the description to get started and also you probably Want to act on it fast because even better the first 100 people that sign up with that link at $50 off the first two Weeks of blue apron And the first bit of awesome today is actually kind of an update to people that are part of defranco elite calm the defranco now Show that, we are testing and yes i know android users you? Stuff raishin, story We covered yesterday if you didn’t see that breakdown it’s essentially this fact fact fact fact fact I highly recommend you check it out first so the oversimplified nonspecific tldr to bring you up to speed attorney, general jeff sessions weeks Ago and now it’s a zero tolerance policy so now? When you have a family trying to illegally cross into the united states the family gets separated Previously you saw federal authorities opting to release entire families so not to separate them but Now that is changing because all adults will be prosecuted so now? You, have these children being separated From their parents and being processed through assistant reportedly as of yesterday after the zero tolerance policy was announced 2,000 children have been separated from their parents, we then talk about of the trump administration is trying to throw This on democrats, while many others are saying no this is not a democrat issue this is a trump administration Issue even saw a good number of republicans speaking out against, what, was happening here once again that’s an oversimplification if you Want the deep details watch that video but here are the updates the only released, yesterday’s video one of the big points Was if the media was not allowed to take pictures or video of some facilities and instead we got those from the government but Yesterday a non-profit newsroom, by the name of pro publica released audio of ten central american children Who, had been separated from their parents the audio, was reportedly recorded inside a us customs and border protection detention center the person Who, recorded the audio has not been identified for fear of retaliation as far as who gave pro publica The audio, that, was civil rights attorney, jennifer harbouring according to the unidentified person, who recorded This audio they
Said that the children in it are between the ages of four and ten years old according to pro publica the children appeared to have Been in the detention center for less than 24 hours so that they’re distressed at having been separated, from their parents Was still raw and something you hear a number of times in this audio you have children crying for their parents You, also hear, what is reportedly a six-year-old salvadoran girl pleading for someone to call her According to propublica they were able to contact the aunt but the ant said that she could Not help her niece because she and her own nine-year-old daughter were seeking Asylum, according to the aunt the girl in the audio is still in a shelter of reportedly she has been warned By, authorities that her mother may be deported without her aunt saying it was the hardest moment in my life She’s crying, and begging, me to go get her he says I promise i’ll behave please get me out of here i’m all alone and most notably in the Seven-minute audio piece you hear a. Border agent joking, about the children cry And that audio in that mindset is gonna be something i touch on again at the end of this story additionally since yesterday we also? Got a look inside a, new, tent city, this one located in tornillo texas the tent city Was reportedly, constructed as an overflow for immigrant teenage, boys also a note here this isn’t the first time tents have been used like this in 2014 us customs and border protection used tents at house an influx of immigrants it also once again that is important to note the main Difference between 2014 and 2018 is the child separation a lot of the photos We see from 2014 are unaccompanied minors now as far as the new. Current photos they, were just released Yesterday they were reportedly taken last, week this By the administration for children and families at health and human services Because of course the media has not been allowed inside the facility yet and they say that each tent can sleep up to 20 children The tents are equipped with air conditioning into the facility in whole can allegedly hold up to 4,000 children and despite the pictures being very very empty Reportedly, the tent city is already open keep in mind these photos were taken last, week they, were just released Yesterday and according to democratic congressman baito orc who is at a Protest outside of this facility over the weekend he told reporters, we were told there were 98 kids in this tent city Yesterday you were told today there are 200 kids and at this protest over work Did something very interesting he made this not all about trump we’ve all got to own, this, we cannot blame this on trump we cannot blame this on a political party this is America right now and so america’s got to show up in addition to this we’ve, also seen, massive pushback from several governors we’ve seen governor’s from massachusetts in new York, both announcing that their states will no longer deploy national guard troops to the border as far as the, why Massachusetts, governor charlie, baker’s team citing of the federal government’s current actions are resulting in the inhumane treatment of children new. York’s governor andrew Cuomo, also hit on that same note adding. We will not be complicit in a political agenda that governs By, fear and division you, also colorado is governor john hickenlooper who yesterday signed an executive order that forbid state resources from being used to separate children from parents or legal guardians based on the grounds of Immigration status, also unsurprisingly we’ve seen a good amount of fake news running around this store and one of the latest Outlets to be called out for spreading fake news Was the drudge report this because the drudge report used a picture of children holding, what appears to be guns Alongside an article on immigrant children coming into america except there were a few Problems with, that is because reportedly the kids in the photo are, syrian, they were in syria the photo Was taken in 2012 And those are not real guns, they are toys We know this to be true because the photographer behind the image has spoken out about the use of it explaining what Was actually happening in the photo and also calling it an obscene Misrepresentation of the photos actual depiction then, we had an coulter doin ann coulter stuff on fox news. Yesterday these Child actors weeping and crying on all the other networks 24/7 right now do not fall for it mr. President i get very nervous, about the president give news from tv Your car is not a conservative publication, they described i told you it wouldn’t get, away Kids are being i’m so, sorry, we have to go given, scripts to read, by liberals according to the, new Yorker, don’t know all for the after children, so he takes aim at the kids that are being taken, away From their parents calling them child actors even referencing something, about the new Yorker, saying the kids are coach Which is confusing because she’s talking about all of these kids and the news coverage around it now but then, she’s referencing What appears to be a, new? Yorker article from 2011 the connection she’s trying to make there appears to be very very weak, and stupid that article talked About university educated ethiopians that Would lie to try and get asylum in the united states not incredibly young children crying because they are being stripped Away, from their families and that being photographed or film but then, from that of course yesterday, we had kirsten nielsen Saying that this was not a policy change it’s despite attorney, general jeff sessions talking about a zero tolerance policy this despite now Chief of staff john kelly, back in 2017, when he was department of homeland security secretary he said, that he was considering Using this as a deterrent if you get some young kids Who are coming in to manage to sneak into the united states with, their parents our department of homeland security personnel gonna separate the children from their moms and dads yes i am considering an audit to deter More movement, along this terribly dangerous network i am considering Exactly that and that wasn’t just a 20-17 thing even in his, new Position last month when he was speaking with npr he set a Big name of the game is deterrent emily separation could be a tough deterrent, would be a tough deterrent another thing We saw with this story is trump taking aim at german trump arguing on twitter that german, chancellor angela Merkel’s more open policies towards migration and refugees have led to a crisis in the german government coalition Sweeting the people of germany are turning against Their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous berlin Coalition crime in germany his way up big mistake made all over europe And allowing millions of people and who have so strongly and violently changed Their culture today and in crime in germany is up 10% plus officials do not Want to report these Crimes since migrants were accepted others countries are even worse be smart america on a response to those tweets there has been massive pushback Many, crime statistics from germany is seeming to show The opposite many citing figures released, back in may, by the german, federal criminal office that show The crime in germany was actually at the lowest it’s been in 25 Years most notably that total offenses in germany were down nine point six percent last, year additionally it says violent crime, was down 2.4 Percent property theft down 11.8%. Street crime down eight point six percent cases where a. Crime, was committed. By, non germans was down 2.7 Percent. By, germans, down 2.2. Percent that said there were increases fraud was up one point three percent computer fraud 2.8 Percent drug, offences 9.2 Percent many pointing at the number of illegal border crossings dropped seventy nine point nine percent but of course that Would be due to the more open? policy Even with those statistics it is important to point out that migration in germany is a political crisis since merkel introduced her open-door policy back in 2015 the country has absorbed more than 1 million migrants emigration as an Issue has weakened merkel’s party there have been a number of growing far-right groups in the country that said right now german people as a Whole are not completely abandoning merkel in her party and she actually remains to be one of the country’s most popular Politicians now as far as what happens next if the situation continues to move forward there is none? Unlikely about-face, from the trump administration, there are several potential solutions in congress right now And will mainly focus on two first being the keep families together at This, from dianne feinstein of california who’s introduced june 7th and it would ban the separation of families at the Border unless there is evidence that a. Child is being trafficked or abused By his or her parents as right now it looks like the democrats completely supported There’s at least one republican that says that they, would vote for it as right now it looks like Any other further republican approval it doesn’t seem like, but they, also had republican senator ted cruz, come up with his Own solution cruz, riding all americans are rightly horrified, by the images, we are seeing on the news children and tears pulled, away From their mothers and fathers this must stop, now, we can end this crisis By, passing the legislation i am introducing this week and his solution both seems to keep families together as Well as get them out of the country faster according to the news, release, his bill would authorize New temporary shelters with accommodations to keep families together it mandates that immigrant families will be kept together absent aggravated Criminal conduct or threat of harm to children it also would double the number of federal immigration judges from roughly 375 to 750 and it would provide expedited processing and review of asylum cases so that within 14 Days those, who meet the legal, standards will be granted asylum and those, who Do not will be immediately returned to their home countries now as far as which one will gain traction if either of them that remains To, be seen but, we will obviously keep an eye out there’s a story as of now It will obviously continue to develop but but as far as where i stand on this because i saw A lot of people asking, what my opinion is and to that i would, say plainly put i am horrified By, this situation something that kirsten nielsen has said Is that there is a crisis at the border and a lot of people have been using that kind of mentality As a justification for what has happened and when you compare the illegal immigration numbers this Year to that of last year it does seem like there is a drastic change although people have pointed out that 2017 was a very, weird outlier, year any people referring to the drop in illegal immigration as the trump effect Many, people seeing you know what’s gonna happen to those of us that try to go and in fact what we’re seeing as far as illegal immigration and 2018 is very close to that of 2013 2014 Numbers when you look at the entirety of the situation Partially one of the reasons that could be responsible for this increase is the crackdown on asylum seekers you see stories around People like weiner berdoo or trafficker shot him seven times last Year he’s been trying to get asylum in the united states he’s trying to do it the right way But he like many others have been stuck at the border see agents, were people turning him, away saying wait in mexico check back Again in a few hours and of course, while, every single person’s story does not resemble this when you look To, someone that has gone through this And they are still stuck in this purgatory That would lend you to think that maybe the better answer is to try and do it illegal Well i do personally think that illegal immigration is an important issue in this country and we should not? Incentivize those to break the law i am horrified that families are being broken up that children are being stripped Away, from their parents and i am even more troubled By the dehumanization of these people whether it be the tommy larenz of the world oversimplifying the situation saying We owe a legal immigrants nothing whether it be the ann coulter’s of the world accusing. These children of being Child actors, whether it be a Border patrol agent so numb to the human, experience that he mocks the children Who are crying out for their parents that they are actively being stripped, away From it just shouldn’t be so easy to not think of them as real people real children and real lives but but Also if you, want to cut the heart out of the situation right just from a numbers aspect That’s something the donald trump likes to hit on now and then as far as you know We could do things differently to save money think about how Much money it’s costing to house, these kids to then process these kids to to look For family and if no family shows up to Manage, these kids in the system all while putting even more people into our prison system that have a Massive price tag per body with the constant mention from trump and others saying that you know We need, a wall and you know lawmakers can, do it very much feels Like this is a negotiating tactic and i say all of this, while acknowledging i don’t know What the perfect answer is and i do not think that there is a perfect answer but it does not feel? Like part of the equation for the perfect, answer is to split up families you, want to crack down on ms-13 types perfect You, want to crack down on people traveling with children and it’s actually human trafficking perfect But unfortunately those things are being used as a justification to go after families that are trying to flee a Bad life potentially violence that’s something that i really Want to focus on because that’s the story the facts of the situation and then my opinion Is how it personally received the situation and for you personally you may agree you May, have greatly different feelings on this story and wherever you would land on this i would love for you to
Give me your opinion in those comments down below i used to say it to a point that got annoying but this is not just A show, i want this to be a conversation with Each and every one of us, we will never see eye to eye on every single topic 100% of the time and if you ever have felt that way i would, ask you to broaden your horizons, who Also taken other points of view so you are not just regurgitating what you were consume and despite knowing that when you have an opinion On a topic and you share it you completely, welcome the wave of dislikes that Is that is incredibly popular when talking about anything remotely political i truly believe it the only? Way forward is to have a conversation so if you, want to take part i love your Face if not don’t worry i get it effort right life is exhausting sometimes and then with the constant 24/7 media cycle being what it is right now it is very easy to just be Exhausted and and feeling beaten down by By shit in the world hopefully We can all stay engaged in a way that’s not completely toxic or maybe that’s wishful thinking but, that’s gonna Be where i’m gonna, add today’s show. Like i said that’s where we’re. Gonna end today’s show and of course with, this being the philip defranco show i gave you the stories i gave you My opinion, now i want to hear from you whether it be the last, story the first one anything in between let me know What you’re thinking in those comments down below, also remember if you, like this Video what i’m trying to do here this conversation i’m trying to have that like button if you, new, here hit that subscribe button Also remember if you missed yesterday’s philip defranco show you

  1. Let's start a conversation in the comments, shall we? 😀
    Video Games(00:06), My Opinion(2:07), TIA(5:03), Immigration Update(6:37), My Opinion(16:17)

  2. By announcing if you come with a child you will be automatically released the Obama administration created this problem. It created a child trafficking gold rush. Obama released many children with their fake families which later turn out to be traffickers. If these people want asylum go to a port of entree. We have to enforce the laws to discourage people from believing that having a child gets you a get out of jail free card.

  3. (I'm sorry, but) When I watch your videos, I usually timeskip past the sponsored content, but your BlueApron ad was too funny to pass up! I think if you were hamming it up demonstrating your own use of the sponsored product or service the way you did today, you'd probably get a lot more eyes on that content.

Calling it a "Disorder" I think Not. Many other forms of Intertaiment in people's lives can cause the same negative affects , if you want to call this a "Disorder" than you'll have to call and creat a Facebook book disorder and Twitter disorder as well. Video Games can wast your time and money athough if you use them wisly they can become a positive outlet for people.

  5. Plant Planet Earth

Addictions will never go away. No one cares what people are addicted to especially if it doesn't cause harm to anyone but the person that is addicted. Once the addiction cause harm to someone else, then maybe they may show concern. Game addiction is not going to be "rehabilitated".

  6. interesting how Mexico's Government took several days and din't gave a response to this. Not until many people spoke against it that is

  7. Some people take gameing really seriously and it effects their life. its like alcohol too much is bad but its not bad

  8. What's happening to immigrants is disgusting, and absolutely unacceptable. My heart goes out to these poor children. I fear for what's going to happen to them.

  9. So if I like ice hockey(what I do), I am 'fanatic' or 'pasionate'
But when I like gaming(also true) I am addicted?
Can I not be a passionate gamer without being called out of it?

  10. 2 hours a day for a week is a disorder😂yeah blame everything but the real problem😂but I guarantee you won’t get payed by the government😂I can play a sport for 2 hours a day for a week,do I now have a disorder😂

  11. On the greatly less than empathetic response that some ppl are having to the clear horrors happening at the border: I think they know that what is happening is wrong, they know it’s horrible and cruel, but also that they as a singular entity can do nothing about it, so they try to rationalize it- they try to wrap their minds around it in some way that makes it excusable. They say “it’s fake, these aren’t real cries for mom and dad” bc if they believed that it was they would have face the fact that what America is doing is WRONG and we as a culture and society have set up an atmosphere and mind set that America is Never wrong, everyone else is. Concerning the the border control officer- orchestra joke I think he was just trying to cope with the situation he was in; not dehumanize the children, hundreds of crying, pleading children scared and confused all around him and he can’t do anything about it; he’s not going to be able to make them happy unless he breaks the Infallible American Law and he ~can’t~ do that. I believe he was a nervous, heart broken man making a joke to cope with an uncomfortable situation. Im not saying these responses are the right kind of responses, and I can’t say for sure that this is true bc I don’t know the hearts of these ppl, and this is me being an optimist and assuming the best of ppl; but it’s important to realize that humans are not perfect in the way we handle the situations around us and everyone is just trying to make it through this f-ed up world in as close the one piece as they can manage.

  12. tbh what did those people expect they come into the country ILLEGALLY of course you are going to get in trouble smh

While the separation of families is terrible, it's the product of the source of all of the world's evils: statism. For statism means to have a monopoly on force.

  14. One time I played a game for 3 days and only took breaks to go to the bathroom, nap(not on purpose and never more than a few minutes), shower, and eat. I uh got really invested in the game and only went to sleep once I finished the main story.

  15. I think there's a cultural thing that's being misunderstood in regard to the "mocking of the children". Having just spent more than a year in Central America, I heard people talking this way about children crying all the time, in nearly every family. It's a cultural idiosyncrasy, it's not considered demeaning or out of the ordinary. The problem is the English speaking US viewpoint. Family life is very different, it's closer knit than most family life in the USA, but can also be verbally harsher because the reality is that their day to day lives are harsher and they need to be tougher people to get through it. There's a massive wealth divide in most of Central America with essentially no middle class whatsoever and the every day family does that they have to do to get by. Children crying are expected to toughen up and contribute. That comes back in the way they communicate to one another.

  16. Ms. Larhens comment troubles me greatly. We owe innocent children human decency no matter what their nationality is.

  17. Why is gaming being attacked. You can do a ludicrous amount of exercise and that's not a problem? No way can you point to gaming as the only addiction that causes problems.

  18. If these asylum seekers are fleeing from their respective countries, and keeping them here is too expensive, why is there no effort expended to fix those problems which will then solve our problems as well. Obviously it would be expensive and problematic but the benefits would outweigh the cons, right?

  19. 6 plus disorders for me, but for SJWs and trans folk they get none yeah this makes all the sense in the world.

  20. Dude, just seriously, too much of anything is negatively impactful. It takes some discipline to manage our time.

  21. LetUsReasonTogether

I actually think the Ted Cruz proposal is quite good. So called expediting could only happen with more adjudicators.

  22. As the wife of a gaming addict , I agree 20 hours weren't a big deal when my husband was a bachelor. Now we have 3 kids and not only are games wasting time but they change how his brain works. He has a bad temper the more games he plays.

  23. Philip is right. We should all just cry until we die from dehydration and let everyone in the world come live here illegally because that's the humane thing to do. All of you wonderful virtuous heroes of the people should go first and give up everything you own to take in all the children and their families since you're so wonderful and virtuous. Think of the children and NOTHING ELSE.

  24. Thank you so much, Phil, for not demonizing gaming. I didn't think you would, but I was concerned. And I agree with you. The criteria for that addiction seem too broad. I mean, I don't want there to be such a thing as gaming addiction or disorder at all! There shouldn't be and there wouldn't be in most cases.

HOWEVER, you have gaming companies who hire specific people for the express purpose of figuring out how to get and keep people addicted to their game! They've already figured out and successfully applied the traditional model of that and you can see it at work on games like World of Warcraft and Minecraft. My son and I both played WoW. And my son was friends with someone who literally dropped out of high school and blew off his friends so he could do non-stop raiding on World of Warcraft. THAT would be the type of thing that I'd call clinical!

But I just have this very strong concern! They have been trying to demonize gamers and gaming for 30+ yrs now. I don't want to hand them any ammo. Seriously. I want people to be able to get treatment but not only do I enjoy games but like you, Phil, games are also a healthy part of my mental health. They help me relax, and they help me escape and repress when my anxiety and anger go bonkers and I need to step away from the stressors of this insane reality we're living in right now. It's one of the things that brings me peace and joy.

And, btw… my therapist, whom I've been with for over 10 yrs, is also a gamer.

  25. I have several friends living in Berlin and they have told me that it has gotten very bad there and people are hiding the fact in any way they can.

  26. these are children! these are young young children who have been ripped away from their families, how could someone in their right mind say that these children who are suffering are actors. there is a special place in hell for psychopaths like you ann coulter

  27. Check out Online Gamers Anonymous (OLG-Anon) and you will find thousands of pages of concern from gamers, family, spouses and friends regarding this addiction. Thanks Phil I have been watching your show on and off since 2007.

  28. Is it because this is happening on America soil people care so much. There are genocides still happening on this planet and yet…

  29. Ugh damn it Phil why do I watch you… You are an amazing youtuber and really id somewhat consider you a reporter in a way I love how you try to present the facts in as an unbiased way as you can and your views seem to be very level headed and I agree mostly with you BUT… and this is a big but… (Hehe I said butt) you get me so down with your stories. Also I really want to punch that dumbfuck Ann Coulter right square in the face. Yes I know violence isn't the answer and I normally wouldn't punch anybody in the face man or woman but the fucking sheer audacity of that ignorant woman to hear those little kids screams and cries and then claim they are child actors… Kids as young as 2 years old hell even younger… It boils my blood man. I'm still shaking in anger at the thought of it

  30. If gambling addiction is a psychological disorder then gaming addiction can be one as well if it affects a person's life negatively. For example, my best friend playing minecraft for an entire week is NOT normal or healthy.

  31. Okay, I genuinely feel badly for these kids, I really do. But I don't blame the government. I blame the stupid, irresponsible, pieces of shit called their parents that decided it was a good idea to take their kids hundreds, or even thousands of miles, through a desert on a dangerous journey, just to break into another country. If you want to blame anyone, blame these idiots. Don't blame the border security just doing their job, and don't blame the government trying to secure our borders. If you really, REALLY think we should just let these people into our country unopposed, here's a novel idea. Open up your goddamn door and let them bunk at your place. Either put your money where your mouth is or shut. The fuck. Up. They are breaking the law and dragging their children along with them. I do feel bad for the children, but it's not my fault, it's not my responsibility, and the only way to fix it is to send them back where they came from and have their parents come in legally.
EDIT: About that joking border patrol agent, it's called Gallows' Humor. When you work in a job where death, severe injury, and other such nasty sights are commonplace, you need a place to release the tension. And often times, that's through the use of very dark jokes. My father was a marine, and one of the ways they let of steam was when they came across wild birds (I don't know what it was, it was in Vietnam) they would often kill it and turn its head into a finger puppet. Is it dark? You're damn right. Is it messed up? Potentially. But when what you see on a daily basis is much, much, MUCH worse than that, you need to find ANY point of levity you can, or you'll just go mad.

  32. It's absolute garbage that they classified gaming as a mental disorder. How many people become a couch potato as soon as they get off work !? At least when you're playing games, your mind is engaged.

  33. I haven’t watched television in about a month. Binge watching a show is completely different than spending a year destroying friendships, losing jobs, failing school, gaining weight, having unhealthy eating habits, sacrificing romantic relationships because you’re stuck on playing a video game. ANYTHING can be an addiction.

  34. If parents didn’t want to be stripped away from their children, they should have never came over here illegally. Why are we trying to decriminalize criminals? You go to almost ANY country ILLEGALLY, you are BREAKING THE LAW. In fact, most countries have far more serious laws than we do about illegal immigration.

  35. Child separation is new in 2018, but I heard (keyword “heard”) that it has been the law since Clinton legislated it during his time in office (?).
So Trump is just going with what’s suppose to be.

  36. I agree families shouldnt be split up. But when is someone gonna put some blame on the parents who put their children in horrible positions by coming illegally

  37. This exactly what I tell my dad. He sits and mindlessly watches tv from the time he gets home from work to the time he goes to bed but I do the same thing except I’m talking to a bunch of my friends and doing something interactive

  38. Phil is correct. There is no simple and intuitive solution to the illegal immigration issue. There are however straightforward steps in making the situation work better for everyone involved.

The first thing we need to change is the "Deterrence First" mentality that we've been unsuccessfully employing for the past 20+ years.

    In place of this mentality we need to employ an "Incentive First" mentality as follows;

1.) Prove you can speak the language well enough to get by in a labor job.

2.) Prove that you have no severe criminal history, prove you have no affiliations to crime syndicates.

3.) And most importantly prove you have a skill that can get you employed. Then the rest of the citizenship process afterward.

Providing this process for everyone that would like a fair chance at taking part in the American culture, society, and economy is and would be an extremely labor intensive process. **SOUNDS TO ME LIKE NEW AND WELL PAYING JOBS FOR AMERICAN WORKERS**

To kick start this process into motion we do as follows:

We transfer the immense workload from the already overworked ICE agency to the nearly infinite private sector of the US economy. The federal govt begins to offer up juicy good contracts through a federally controlled contract bidding database. These ICE contractors are incentivised to hire local qualified workers from their respective areas and are then required to run them through intensive ICE agency training before taking on the "Incentive First" contracts.

By employing this 'bar room napkin' idea we make three important improvements over the current state of things.

1.) We fill the demand for a better US/Mexico border process with a supply of American workers through highly competitive contracts. High levels of competition sandwiched between strict job conduct requirements will force these private sector contractors to be as fiscally efficient as possible while spending taxpayer money. This will be unlike federal agency spending the taxpayer money directly with no incentive for fiscal efficiency. The number one Commandment of private industry is ——->>>> ALWAYS COME IN UNDER BUDGET!

2.) By correctly and efficiently processing these immigrants and making American citizens out of them we will hypothetically increase our country's labor force, taxpayer base, and therefore increase our country's gross domestic product in the long run.

3.) Over a period of time the United States would have processed through our border and consequently absorbed into our labor force such a high percentage of Mexico's current and available labor force that the wide spread Mexican federal govt corruption will have no foundation to stand on and eventually fall along with what little economic power Mexico currently has.

With all that being said. There is no perfect solution because we're all just humans trying to do the best we can; with the best we can; for the betterment of all. I'm sure any solution that is employed will have flaws. The goal is to employ the solution that does good for everyone involved.

  39. …..But I use gaming to destress from a really stressful day. It's better than anger management classes or downright going homicidal on people. I just find gaming more legal and less expensive than dealing my issues with drugs.

  40. Honestly, if we can call gaming an "addiction", then its one of the most healthy addictions there is, considering there are COUNTLESS things that are FAR worse to be addicted to(drugs, alcohol, pain, violence, etc). Everyone paints gamers in a bad light because they see video games as "Something you do by yourself, alone."

  41. If I had heard the audio from the immigration story out of context I would have immediately thought of children in a third world country in pain or in some sort of slavery or something where they would be beaten if they "disobeyed" I'll say…
I would never have thought, at least without context, that it would be something in such an advanced country such as America…. this is disgusting.

  42. According to the world health organization I a 12 year old boy has a addiction. A addiction to gaming. I am disappointed

  43. Gaming taking over your life is not a disorder. It’s an addiction. They are different and it ridiculous to to call it a mental disorder

  44. There is no such thing as a 'video game addiction'. Because, by and large, it is IMPOSSIBLE to be ADDICTED to a video game.

Here's the science on why that is: when one is addicted to something, when they are forced to go without that thing, the brain sends messages to the body that something is seriously wrong because it is being forced to go without something that it thinks the body needs to survive. This is called 'detoxing'. And thus, they suffer withdrawals. And in nearly all cases, these withdrawals present with PHYSICAL (and to a lesser degree mental) symptoms. There has never been a documented case (and doubtful will there EVER be) where someone has had withdrawal symptoms from not being able to play video games, regardless of how much they want to.

And no, just getting pissed off because they can't play them when and where they want to doesn't count as withdrawal. That's just being a pissy bitch.

  45. I have absolutely NO sympathy for the kids that are being separated from their families. None.

Instead of blaming the government for doing this, why isn't anyone blaming the parents of the children? No one is FORCING them to drag their kids to the border. They're making the conscious choice to do this. America hasn't been keeping the fact that they'll do this a fucking secret. They advertise it loud and clear and these stupid motherfuckers still try.

If you stand at the mouth of a cave and throw rocks at a sleeping bear, you have no right to be pissed when the bear fucking eats your ass.

People need to grow the fuck up and put the blame where it belongs; on the immigrants themselves. They made the choice. Now they have to suffer the consequences.

  46. Firstly, I think what makes video games better than TV is the fact that they are interactive. Studies have shown that people who play video games are better problem solvers.
Secondly, I think there is generally a preexisting condition if someone is overinduldging in anything to the point of ignoring basic needs or daily responsibilities. In some way, I feel that if WHO labels playing too many video games as its own addiction then its ignoring an underlying problem the person might have. Video games aren't inherently evil.

  47. I think the key component of the diagnosis is the person continuing to play the same amount despite negative consequences. Not sure what the implications of the mere existence of this disorder have one general mental health conversation though.

  48. Would it be too much Phil to get sources on your stats for Germany, because for 2 years I've been hearing European youtubers rip apart their own governments for manipulating stats

  49. phil phil phil.. first off, where was the actual video of these heartbroken babes? As far as what I saw, dark screen with audio. We can't actually say WHAT that might be from. I think we shouldn't be so presumptuous. Phil. Why you attacking Ann Coulter? lol. Do you know they're NOT being hired paid johnny on the spot? No but that's how it's done. This has been an ongoing issue through several admins, not just the Trump like the man you quoted. But here is the bottom line-

    ready?

The last caravan that wreaked havoc and matters of which have yet to be resolved was in JULY! Three months ago, people. Does anyone recall the headcount for that cross-carrying caravan? Hence the reason matters are still unresolved.

My words back in July were very clear the same way Trumps words were crystal clear.
I actually said…. maybe next time there won't be a next time bc the migrants will finally heed the words I recall quite well. How can anyone NOT remember? Trump clearly stated not to go to our border for the purpose of ILLEGALLY entering the USA. There was no doubt, misunderstanding nor ambivalence about it. I don't ignore concerned advice. It is not anyone's fault BUT THEIR OWN that they chose to disregard cautionary requests and advisories, continuing on their journey to illegally enter this COUNTRY. It is a terrible situation to separate a child from her family, and it's frustrating as hell to know a parent would do this in the first place. So let that be the example of the true colors of these migrants. I do not knowingly put my kids in harms way. Do you?
Of course not. Bc loving caring parents DON'T roll the dice with things they truly cherish and treasure. And if you are a person who will put their children at risk. then dare I ask what might you do when the people of this country put you up in a habitat for humanity house, US citizens paying their bills, food, child care.. etc etc etc. ???????? God only knows what undocumented mom or dad might be doing then!
I'm no perfect parent. But I would never subject my kids to this bullshit bc I'm seeking asylum FROM POVERTY and gang violence. Tf? We have the same and even worse, Here. Period. There's bad areas demographically EVERYWHERE. Even in this country! Can you imagine that? They don't get that this is not an improvement. One frying pan to the next frying pan comes to mind.
So remember guys when we point a finger look how many we're pointing back at us? It is not OUR FAULT that they're making
poor choices. We have pleaded with these migrants, we have EXPRESSED TO THEM… please don't. Please WAIT.
They do not listen to anything we advise. If you think they're voila, they're going to start listening all the sudden after asylum is approved, better think again! We need to improve our country, our kids need more attention from us, innumerable things need to be changed to achieve a goal. MAGA.
Lastly, lest ye not forget, might check your international laws re asylum seeking for it's my understanding that BY law anyone who seeks asylum should be staying in the FIRST country they breach the border of that offers asylum. AND THATS the law. So why in the hell would they continue on their journey THROUGH SOMETIMES 3 COUNTRIES, without even a mention of asylum in that country? And all this with the babies they just love so dearly… more travel time.
I submit if they loved their babes THAT MUCH, then they should take their babies home! And that's that. They can make their own homes great again. They just need to have a desire, you think they'll give a flip about a country THATS NOT THEIRS? We already know that answer.
Nuff said. Sorry for the novel just trying to share the truth. Do the research y'all. And consider the sources as well. Bye bye

  50. Television programming they are never going to call out television binge watching as an addiction it would take away from all their propaganda

  51. People can be addicted to anything, but it doesnt happen in a bubble. People turn to video games as a main aspect of their lives because of other problems. If someone has problems with their serotonin receptors, and as a result of that have very little success in finding lasting happiness, have constant anxiety and depression, and who have found that SSRI meds do not provide any relief. Very little is actually understood about the neuroreceptors in our brains and drugs that try to change how these receptors operate are just a shot in the dark. Someone like this would find playing video games, with the constant rewards and sense of progression, relieving. If video game provides you with all the good feelings that your brain has problems getting from real life, then you're at an extreme risk of replacing life with video games.

  52. A lot of Republicans believe that if there are benefits for bringing children with you when seeking asylum, that might create a problem where people with not-so-good intentions might try to procure a child to pose as their own when coming to America.

  53. Love how you put the videos of kids crying for their parents, but never mention that most of these kids come alone and the ones that come with their “parents” can be part of human smuggling. Report all of it not just your leftist bs opinion.

  54. I agree that it's stupid to say that's a problem. I will say, though, that the difference between when I watch TV and play games is that I'm very rarely JUST watching TV. I've doing other things at the same time. When I play games, I'm playing games.

  55. Lol so basically anything someone might enjoy is a disorder?
Psychology is a messy mostly crapshoot of idiots trying to coin new diagnosis to gain a name for themselves.

  56. I'd stick with the term, gaming addiction. It's an escape from something, not some abnormal condition that sticks with you forever.

  57. I think the important thing to understand with diagnoses is that they are created so that medical professionals can talk amongst themselves about patients with clarity. They don’t exist for laymen to scrutinise or shame others, or for individuals to label themselves for attention. There are some people who have addictions to gaming that impair health. Giving it a name or not giving it a name doesn’t change the fact. However, giving it a name helps psychologist A talk to psychiatrist B talk about patient C who has condition D with symptoms 1, 2, and 3. I don’t know what the symptoms are for gaming disorder but it will be about more than the number of hours spent and individuals would need to have a certain number of symptoms. The diagnosis would be applied to extreme cases where people are suffering emotional distress or don’t function well in society etc. Consuming too much media possibly isn’t healthy for anyone, but there is a difference between not being healthy and actually being sick. For example, a person who eats cake a chocolate everyday is not living a healthy lifestyle, but a person with diabetes is actually sick. Mental health works very similarly to physical health in this regard.

  58. Love your channel. But need to turn it off whenever you switch to politics. So sick of all the BS from both sides. They all lie.

Also noticing a trend where the politics starts after 10 min mark. Starting to feel played.

  59. Dude 20 hrs of gaming a week, that's a good week in my book. I barely have time to play anymore.
Like addiction to anything else, if you are obsessed with something and that keeps you from doing important and necessary things in your life then you have a problem. Of course people can be addicted to video games, but it's no special or different than being addicted to other things. Let them continue research to adequately understand how to discern if someone actually has a problem

  60. It's interesting how dehumanization of immigrant children was discussed and how horrible the lack of empathy for these children is, and scrolling through the comments section the majority of comments were related to video game addiction. That really opened my eyes.
