welding positions 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G

Hello friends
Today, I am going to share with you how to conduct the welder performance test. See, before moving ahead, I would like to tell
you about the different welding positions We have four different welding positions like
1G, 2G, 3G and 4G for plate welding. Similarly, we have four different welding
positions for pipe welding also. 1G, 2G 5G and 6G. But in this video, I am going to restrict
myself to only plate welding ok. So in plate welding, as I told earlier we
have 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G Similarly also we have 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F also
ok. so what is the basic difference between “G”
and “F” See “G” stands for groove welding and “F”
stands for fillet welding. If it’s a groove welding, then we will designate
it as 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G and if it is a fillet welding then we will designate our welding
as 1F, 2F, 3F and 4F. So before moving forward, I would like to
show you what is a groove welding. See, here I am going to join these two pieces
ok, and in order to joint these two pieces, I have made a groove over here. So this is a groove welding.(Line repeated)
and what is a fillet welding Instead of joining like this, If I join my
plate like this, then this will be called as fillet welding. Now I am going to tell you about the different positions of welding. This position ………………… If I have to do the welding here and the welder’s head will be above the piece, then this will be
called as a flat welding position ok. Now we are going for 2G,
2G is horizontal position How to do 2G welding
see this position is 2G Our test piece will be (positioned) like this
and ……. we will move our electrode in horizontal plane ok (Line repeated)
see this position is horizontal ok so we will move our electrode in horizontal plane so this is called as 2G position
In 2G position, we have two different …………two different types of welding (technique). One is rightward technique and the other one
is leftward technique. See if we are going from left to right it
is rightward and if we are going from right to left, it is leftward technique (wrongly
spoken as rightward technique) So this is 2G welding
Now 3G welding. What is 3G welding
In 3G welding, our piece will be positioned like this and we will move our electrode in
a vertical plane (Line repeated) See this plane is vertical plane and we are
moving our electrode in a vertical plane and we are moving our electrode in a vertical
plane. So this is 3G position In 3G also, we have two different techniques
one is uphill and the other one is downhill. If we will move from bottom to top it is uphill
and if we move from top to bottom it will be downhill position
So this is all about 3G welding, Now I am going to tell you about 4G welding. Actually, 4G welding is overhead position
ok, so I’ll show you what is overhead position See In overhead position, our test piece will
be above the head of the welder and the welder will be welding like this. Overhead position is the most difficult welding position. Why ? because the welder has to work against the gravity Here the material has to be penetrated against
the gravity hence, It is one of the most difficult position in welding ok. So this is 4G welding position. So now, we have understood what is 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G I am going to repeat it again
1G is flat position, 2G is horizontal position, 3G is vertical position and 4G is overhead. And “G” is groove welding. hence If I say 1G, It means flat groove welding. If I say 2G, It’s horizontal groove welding. So here I am conducting one welder test in 2G position, I am going to show you This is our 2G position……………….. Here the welder has already done the welding,
this is our 2G position. Our test piece is………300 mm, this dimension
is 300 mm and this is 150 mm and this is also 150 mm. And I am joining these two pieces by making
a groove. See this is a double “V” groove and this position
is “2G’. So this is all about welding positions. Thank you very much !!!
