The Rehabilitation Center at Coliseum

The Rehabilitation Center at Coliseum

– [Narrator] Welcome to
Coliseum Rehabilitation Center. We are a 29 bed rehabilitation
unit with all private rooms. We are located on the fourth
floor of the main hospital at Coliseum Medical Centers. Our rehabilitation center is certified by The Joint Commission in the Management of Stroke Rehabilitation. And proud to be the only facility in Macon with that distinction. Our rehab team includes
a neurologist on staff that works with the team
to provide the best care for our stroke patients. We provide three hours
of therapy services daily with a goal of returning our
patients to their previous living environment at discharge. (exciting music) Our private rooms allow
you the ability to rest between therapy sessions and also to visit with your family and friends. During your stay at
Coliseum rehab you will have a rehab team that consist
of a physical, nurse, physical therapist, occupational
therapist, speech therapist and a therapeutic recreation specialist. You will also be assigned
a patient program manager to be your liaison, an
assistant answering questions and making necessary adjustments
with your rehab team. We use a team approach
and meet weekly to discuss your progress and any barriers
that may have an impact on meeting your discharge goals. After each meeting your
patient program manager will visit with you to discuss
your progress and update you on any changes that are
necessary to keep you on target for your discharge. During your stay you’ll
receive one on one treatment with licensed professionals. Your physical therapist
will focus on helping you improve your lower body
strength, ability to walk safely with a device and transfer techniques. Physical therapy will also
help you with stair negotiation and car transfers. Your occupational therapist
will be assisting you with upper body strengthening,
self care training as well as transfers in and
out of the tub and the shower. Our therapeutic recreation
specialist will provide barrier management training, home
and community reentry outings and will make recommendations
for home modifications that may be needed. Speech therapy will work with
you on any cognitive issues, problem solving skills,
communication barriers as well as swallowing
and feeding deficits. Patients with swallowing
and feeding difficulties will be monitored
closely in our swallowing and feeding group held in
our private dinning room. All other patients will eat in their room at the designated time. Our rehab unit also has a
transitional living apartment that we utilize in preparing
you for your transition home. In this apartment we will
practice home management tasks, such as cooking, laundry
and transferring on and off a regular bed and sofa. Your therapy plan will be individualized to your specific needs. While in rehab you and
your family or caregiver will be invited to attend an
education training session to give you an idea of
how you’re progressing and what kind of help you
may need at discharge. We will schedule these education sessions and order any equipment
and follow up services that you require prior to discharge. We will provide additional
training if needed. Our primary goal is to get
you back to your previous living environment and also
make sure that you have the skills to safely manage
your care in your home. All of our staff love what
they do and feel they’re is no greater reward than to
see our patients return home at discharge. And back to the previous
lifestyle they once enjoyed. Thank you for choosing
Coliseum for your rehab healthcare needs. If you have any further
questions please contact our clinical rehabilitation specialists or our rehab department at 478 765 4333.
