Rehabilitation is a cornerstone of
everything we do at Kennedy Krieger Institute with a strong tradition of
providing comprehensive rehabilitation services for children and young adults.
We offer more than 70 outpatient medical and specialty clinics and programs and
treat more than 20,000 patients each year. Our state-of-the-art outpatient
center is adjacent to a multi-level parking garage with free parking
convenient free valet parking is also available for families who prefer that
feature. Kennedy Krieger Rehabilitation physicians have specialized training and
are board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. We focus on patient
centered care and maximizing independence and mobility.
At Kennedy Krieger we are committed to family-centered care we believe the best
way to care for patients is to include families as part of the healthcare team
our interdisciplinary staff includes physical therapists occupational
therapists speech language pathologists physical medicine and rehabilitation
physicians developmental pediatricians and other specialists who evaluate and
treat children with neurological orthopedic and congenital diseases and
disorders. We offer a unique developmental approach to rehabilitation
using recreation and functional activities to turn the hard work of
rehabilitation into fun using developmentally appropriate games
activities sports and adaptive equipment patients are able to strengthen muscles
increase range of motion and improve coordination memory attention span and
daily living skills. Our physical therapy program provides a full range of
innovative and specialized services to patients with developmental disorders or
injuries. Our team helps thousands of individuals develop and enhance
functional skills and increase independence. Physical therapy
incorporates hands-on techniques and therapeutic exercises combined with play
and recreational activities to help patients reach functional goals. Our
indoor sensory gym was designed by pediatric therapists to give children

and physical therapy and provide our therapists more tools than ever before

individuals with traumatic brain injuries. Since its establishment in 1979
the brain injury program has treated thousands of children and adolescents
with rehabilitation needs due to neurological injury or illness. The
International Center for spinal cord injury at Kennedy Krieger employs highly
skilled physical therapists and occupational therapists that specialize
in the treatment of individuals with spinal cord injuries through activity
based restorative therapies. The center is equipped with technologically
advanced rehabilitative equipment designed to optimize recovery. Patients
with orthopedic concerns are evaluated for treatment and follow-up that could
include casting embracing needs, evaluation for surgical interventions
and post-operative management. Kennedy Krieger is at the forefront in the use
of technology to improve functional capabilities of children with

mobility systems as well as communication systems. Located on the top floor of our outpatient center the aquatic therapy center features two
state-of-the-art pools that offer different aquatic environments including
built-in treadmills, video monitoring systems, multiple jets for resistance and
floors that operate on lifts for barrier free entry and exit for patients and
wheelchairs. Child life specialists help patients and families cope with and
adjust to illness or injury. The program focuses on emotional support, education
on medical procedures and conditions and enhancement of developmental skills
