Hello everyone. In our freshman physics 101 lab

project, we are investigating the dependency of friction force on contact

area and mass. So, to do that we’re sliding a block down an inclined plane

with a fixed inclination angle. Theoretically we can show that friction force should be

independent from the contact area and linearly dependent on mass in a positive

way so at first we are calculating the implantation angle theta by measuring

the base and height of the implant pin and applying simple to abilities such as

theta is equal to tan inverse height bible’s then here we are keeping the

mass of the Odin dog with the surface constant and buy additional by adding

additional weight so here as you can see we are adding additional weight as

necessary to keep the mass of the two surfaces same oldest to the surface of

100 centimeter square and slide it down from the top of inclined pin we are also

with keeping the record of the time taken by the dog to travel the length of

the plane and yes as you can see in tubes one point one four nine four

second and then we are changing the contact area now we’re going to repeat

the previous step for various contact areas we will have repeat the experiment

four five times with several contact areas so after conducting the experiment

with several areas we will conduct experiment with several masses true

first we’re sliding the block down without any additional mass then whoever

slide the block with 50 gram additional mass and in each case were recording

that time because we need that the time data to calculate the acceleration and

hence the force of friction so here now we’re repeating next

for various masses so putting the fellow of the recorded time in this equation we

can calculate the force of friction for various masses and various contact areas

so as you can see in the plot of friction force versus contact area it is

nearly horizontal so we can safely say there is no relation between seats at

first and a contact area and in the graph of friction force versus mass the

plot will observe it has a positive slope and the y-intercept is zero so we

can say that there is a positive relation of fixed and force and mass
