Dr. Tae Chung | Neuromuscular Rehabilitation

>>My name is Dr. Tae Chung,
I’m an assistant professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation, with
a secondary appointment in the department of neurology. After finishing my residency
in physical medicine and rehabilitation, I
completed a neuromuscular fellowship in the department of neurology. I see patients with various
neuromuscular conditions, and in particular, I’m
interested in a disease called idiopathic inflammatory
myopathy, also known as myositis. I’m also interested in a
disease condition called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, also known as POTS. This is a condition that’s relatively common but vary under recognized. That presents with severe fatigue, brain fog, dizziness and
sometimes frequent fainting. I see patients with POTS at a POTS clinic in various locations. My main research question
is why do people get weaker and disabled when they get older and are they any ways to prevent it? I think the key to answer this question, is in the peripheral
nerve and muscle system. And I investigate third metabolic pathway that I believe to be responsible for the neuro degeneration with aging. My amount of research focuses
on using technologies such as augmented reality and
virtual reality to improve the quality and access to
rehabilitation therapies. My philosophy of patient
care is a team approach. In my clinic you will notice, that I work closely with
physical therapists, occupational therapists
and other physicians. But most importantly I
believe patients should be the center of team play. I look forward to seeing you in my clinic and if you have any
questions regarding my clinic or research, please
feel free to contact me. Thank you very much. (upbeat music)
