Barton Health Peek: Alter-G

Barton Health Peek: Alter-G

(upbeat music) – My name is Caroline Barichievich and I’m the physical therapy supervisor
in the performance lab. I’m here to talk to you a
little bit about the Alter-G. The Alter-G is one of the
most innovative pieces of equipment that we have ever worked with in the rehab department. It is an anti-gravity treadmill
that offloads body weight. It can remove up to 80% of
your weight in 1% increments. You can run up to a five
minute mile, walk backwards at three miles per hour,
and have the incline 15%. Anyone who has an injury requiring weight bearing limitations
or the inability to walk without pain can
benefit from the Alter-G. Some of the indications include surgeries, stress fractures, sprain
strains, osteoarthritis, and even neurological conditions. Without pain, you can
concentrate on proper form without limping, allowing
appropriate muscles to fire more efficiently. High level athletes are also using Alter-G to train for events. The Alter-G also enables
the athlete to decrease the impact and stress on
the legs during recovery from a previously hard
workout while reaching the same aerobic intensity. For more information on the Alter-G and Barton’s performance lab programs, please visit bartonhealth.org.
