For a while you know it was really good,
he seemed really intelligent. and um, I seemed to see a side of him
that nobody else did and it made me feel special. As time progressed, it really
became clear that he thinks of women as
lesser. He would hold all the money, all of the bills and any
apartment we rented, everything was in my name. ♪♪ We were together for two years and it took me two years to get
away from him. It wasn’t clear to me until I
started to pick up the pieces just how deep the
roots of that financial abuse had gone. The signs of financial abuse in
my relationship were the withholding of money, the destruction of my credit. I couldn’t get a bank account. I couldn’t get a cellphone. I
almost got evicted. The Allstate Foundation Moving

financial abuse we’d be one step closer to
ending domestic violence. ♪♪
